Medial Epicondylitis Click to View Medial Epicondylitis   Medial epicondylitis, more commonly known as golfers elbow, is the result of repeated contraction of the muscles used to flex the arm and bend the wrist. Pain typically occurs on the inside of the elbow. Symptoms include: A weak grip. Elbow pain that radiates from the inside of the elbow to the wrist. Tenderness when touching the inner side of the elbow. Shaking hands. Flexing the wrist toward the forearm.
Treatment: Non-surgical Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, Naprosyn and Celebrex may be used to decrease elbow pain. Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting these medications. Cold therapy to stimulate blood flow and relieve the elbow pain associated with inflammation. Cold therapy should be applied several times over the course of the day. Cortisone injection into the tendon sheath. A brace to minimize stress on the effected tendons. Rehabilitation to stretch and strengthen the muscles. Rest. Surgical treatment Surgery is rarely used to treat epicondylitis. Surgery entails either trimming the inflamed tendon, or surgically releasing and then reattaching the tendon to relieve pain.
