APPLICATION OF THE LIBERTY DSO
The Liberty Dynamic Stabilizing Orthosis (DSO)™ is designed to offer unrestricted range of motion in dorsi and plantar flexion while controlling ankle inversion within the critical zone. Control and freedom of movement is dependent upon proper application of the brace; incorrect application will diminish the effectiveness of the product..
- Preparation Unfasten all straps with the exception of closure, 6b. Open the Liberty DSO™ and remove the separating medium. Make sure that Velcro® straps, 2, 3, and 6a remain attached to themselves to avoid entanglement.
- Seating of Heel in Support With foot on chair or floor, raise heel slightly. Place heel into the heel opening (A) and pull support forward toward ball of foot. Lower heel and pull up on back of support to ensure the heel is seated properly. The back of the Liberty DSO™ should contour over the back of the heel.
- Brace Forefoot Alignment Align the forefoot gussets on either side of the foot. The foot should be centered between gussets (B). Secure strap 1.
- Tongue Closure Pull tongue (C) with slight tension toward inner (medial) side of support. Make sure the top edge of tongue (C) aligns with top edge of brace (horizontally). Secure with quick closere tabs (D).
- Strap Closures Secure straps 2 and 3. Trim straps 1, 2, and 3 as necessary.
- Dynamic Vertical Strap Closure Raise outer edge of foot. Extend (preload) strap 4 and place on Velcro® hook landing pad (E). The dynamic inversion stop, 4a, should be under tension (preloaded).
Note: Preloading of the inversion stop is variable and is dependent upon the amount of eversion (raised outer edge of foot) when applying the dynamic straps.
- Dynamic “Y” Strap Closure
7a. Secure Rear Link and Strap
Pass end of closure 6b through link 5b. Tighten until 5b is completely over the nylon portion of the inside of the support.
7b. Secure Forward Link and Strap
Pass end of closure 6a through link 5a. Pull strap 6a until the dynamic inversion stop 5c is vertical along the outside of the leg. As with stop 4a, the stop 5c should be under tension (preloaded). Trim ends of Velcro® as necessary.
- Elastic Band Closure Close strap 7.
